Mary D. Fickett 90

South Portland- Mary Fickett, 90, peacefully passed into the arms of our Savior on August 19, 2025 at Sedgewood Commons, Falmouth. Mary had lived independently until July 2025, at which point it became necessary for her to move to a secure setting. In her short stay, she made many friends among the staff and residents.

Mary grew up in Portland on the Eastern Promenade. She graduated from Cathedral Grammar School and went on to complete her education at Portland High School class of 1953. She met the love of her life, John Fickett in the Munjoy Hill neighborhood of Portland. They were married October 29, 1955, at The Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Portland. They made their first home on Grant Street. They purchased their only home in South Portland in 1960. They remained devoted to one another until John's death in 2016.

Mary was a devout Catholic, she attended mass faithfully until it was no longer possible. There after she received the Holy Eucharist in her home. Mary took great pride in her family, her home and gardens. Mary was passionate about gardening both inside and out. African violets, peony, clematis, and Johnny Jump Ups were her favorites.

Mary is predeceased by her parents, husband, and her four siblings: Cora, Ida, David and Mickey. She is survived by her three children: Susan Fickett- Allen and husband Brian, Rev. Zahira DuVall and husband Thomas Grunwald of South Portland, and Peter Fickett and husband Robert Sorenson of Vancouver, BC., three grandchildren Samuel Fickett, Madeline DuVall and Hannah Allen; four great grandchildren: Hailey, Sincere, Josiah and Rumi.

A traditional Catholic funeral mass will be held on Thursday, August 28 at 11:00am at Holy Cross Church in South Portland; immediately followed by a reception at Hobb's Funeral Home in South Portland. At Mary's request there will be no visiting hours nor burial services. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Mary's name to the Animal Refuge League of Greater Portland.

Arrangements are under the guidance of Hobbs Funeral Home, South Portland. Condolences may be expressed online at www.hobbsfuneralhome.com
