Mary Fleming Obituary
Age 84, of Breckenridge, MI, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, January 19, 2026, with her family by her side.
Mary was born on August 15, 1941, in Alma, MI to Harriet (Wiley) and Vern Furlong. Mary married Robert M. Fleming Sr. on October 24, 1959, at St. Patrick's Ryan Catholic Church in Merrill, MI.
Mary was a long-time member of St. Patrick's Ryan Catholic Church. Over the years, she was an avid bowler, belonged to MSU Extension, Red Hatters Club, and was an Avon Lady. She attended Delta College for her Associate's Degree and worked as a dental assistant in Midland. Then she became a real estate agent and worked for Century 21, in Alma.
Mary enjoyed watching her grandchildren and great grandchildren play sports and participate in 4-H. They traveled all over to watch softball games. Many winters were spent in Florida at St. Pete's Beach. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, traveling, cruising, and spending time with her family.
She is survived by her husband Robert M. Fleming Sr. and their 5 children. Theresa Shepard, Tammy (Reuben) Ortiz, Deb (Rich) Dittenber, Brenda Fleming & Ken, and Robert (Karla) M. Fleming Jr. Grandchildren: Krista Shepard, Lisa (Isaiah) Mayes, Kindra (Courtney) Johnson-Ortiz, Jordan (Marlea) Ortiz, Serena (Harrison) Zuchnik, Corbin Fleming-Dittenber, Alyna & Jacob Fleming, Kaitlin (Bailey) Boddorf, and Spencer Fleming (Olivia). Great-Grand kids: Haylee, Jayden, Phenix, & Lovlyn Mayes, Ayden & EmmaLyn Ortiz, and Ruby Johnson-Ortiz. Best friend: Judy Curtis. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Jerry and Eldon Furlong, her son-in-law James Shepard, Grandson Trevor Britting, friend Karen Miller along with many brothers and sisters-in-law.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 23, 2026, at 11:00 at St. Patrick's Ryan Catholic Church, 4708 N. Meridan Rd., Merrill, MI 48662. Interment will be in St. Patrick's Ryan Catholic Cemetery, Merrill. Visitation will be held on Thursday January 22, 2026, from 2 to 7 pm at the Lux and Whiting Funeral Chapel, Breckenridge. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice or St. John XXIII Parish.
