Mary Ann was born April 22, 1945, in an apartment in Passaic, New Jersey to her mother, Amelia Sefcik. She was the youngest of five children. She lived in New Jersey for 40 years and, after meeting her husband, John, moved to Orange County, California. She worked for Orange County in the Probation/Child Support Agency for 10 years. After returning from Orange County in 1995, John and Mary Ann moved to Johnston County, NC. She began working with Wake County Child Support in 1996 and retired in April of 2011. Mary Ann was an advocate of the child support program. She worked closely with custodial parents and non-custodial parents to achieve the goal of support for the children. She was known as a no-nonsense agent. One of the judges she worked closely with was Kristen Ruth, who developed a special program for substance abuse parents. Mary Ann returned in March 2012 (Part Time) to work again in Child Support with the State of N.C. Central Registry. Ten years later she retired on May 2, 2022. You could often hear Mary Ann saying "Thank God for the wonderful supervisors I was blessed with. They taught me so much and always respected and encouraged me".
Mary Ann and her husband, John, are parishioners of St. Mary, Mother of the Church in Garner, NC. Mary Ann loved her church and church family. She was a VP of the Legion of Mary and one of the leaders of the Thursday night prayer group. She would bring Communion to the homebound.
