Mary Janice (Jan) Weidner Franceski, 78, of Lauderhill, FL, passed away September 29, 2025 in the Catholic Hospice of Holy Cross Health in Fort Lauderdale, FL. She had been suffering from Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis.
Jan was born to James and Winifred Weidner on April 15, 1947, in Scranton, PA. She graduated from Marywood Seminary in Scranton and attended the University of Scranton as part of her program of student nursing at State Hospital in Scranton. Throughout her career she was a Medical Assistant to various doctors of Internal Medicine, Orthopedics, and Neuro-surgery.
She married the love of her life, Greg Franceski, in 1967 and they have been happily married for 58 years. They have two daughters, Lauren Franceski and Jennifer Glisson, both of Virginia Beach, VA. They have also treasured a very special "daughter", Diana Neal (Michael), of Hollywood, FL. They have been blessed with seven grandchildren, Corbin Pree, Briana Franceski, Ryan Glisson, Austin Glisson, Chaya Franceski, Brooke Glisson, and Ashley Glisson and two very special "grandchildren", Michael Neal and David Neal, and five great-grandchildren.
Jan was very active in the Catholic Church of the Ascension in Virginia Beach for many years where she volunteered in support of the Business Manager, fund raising, and religious education and initiation of adults into the Catholic faith. In Florida, she has been a parishioner of St. Bernard Catholic Church in Sunrise. She also enjoyed her daily swims with friends at the Virginia Beach Recreation Center for many years after she retired. After moving to Florida, she and Greg went on many cruises, visiting nearly all the Caribbean islands and South and Central America. They also traveled extensively in the southern United States, along with annual trips "up north" to visit family and friends.
Jan is survived by her husband, Greg; her daughters, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents, grandparents, and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
The Funeral Mass will be held at St. Bernard Catholic Church, 8279 Sunset Strip, Sunrise, FL, on Thursday, October 23, 2025, at 4:00PM.
