Mary Margaret Gaffney (Moneypenny), passed away peacefully at the age of 96, surrounded by her family on November 6, 2022.

Mary was born September 12, 1926 to William and Veronica Moneypenny in Akron, Ohio. She graduated from East High School and was employed at O'Neils Department Store until she started her family. Mary loved children and started caring for other children in her home while raising her own family.

Mary married her beloved Joe Gaffney in 1950. Together they raised seven children. Mary loved to dance and travel with Joe. Family vacation time at the beach was extremely important to her. The vacations were planned and saved for throughout the years and continue to this day.

Mary is survived by her children: Janis (Rich) Bachmann, Patrick (Patti) Gaffney, Julie (Dave) Zampelli, Joyce (Ed) Kaiser, Jennifer (Mike) Haas, Brian Gaffney, and Joe (Edie) Gaffney; grandchildren Tony (Mary), Jessica and Matt (Brittany) Bachmann, Ryan and Emily Gaffney, David, Lauren, Brittany and Stephen Zampelli, Olivia, Eddie, Nick and Alex Kaiser, Chloe, Samantha and Meghan Haas, Helen, Patrick and Sarah Gaffney; great-grandchildren Alexa (Anthony) McKenna, Alyse, Allison, Alaina, Luke, Lily and Logan Bachmann; sisters-in-law Gloria, Charlotte and Polly Moneypenny; as well as many loving nieces and nephews.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Joe; her sisters and brothers-in-law: Beatrice Moneypenny, Frances (Bill) Spence, Rita (Floyd) Schweitzer, Betty (Bob) Oettinger; her brothers and sisters-in-law: John (Lelia) Moneypenny, Bill Moneypenny, Art (Angie) Moneypenny, Leo (Mary) Moneypenny, Edward (Ruth) Moneypenny, Lawrence Moneypenny, Tom Moneypenny, Francis Moneypenny; her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: James (Mary) Gaffney, Eileen (Paul) Shrader, and Thomas (Mary Lou) Gaffney.

The family would like to thank the wonderful caregivers at the Village of St. Edward Fairlawn and Northeast Ohio Hospice for the loving care they provided for Mary and her family.

Visitation will be on Sunday, November 13 from 2 to 5 p.m. at Hummel Funeral Home, 500 E. Exchange Street. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Monday, November 14 at 10:00 a.m. at Annunciation Church-Visitation of Mary Parish, 55 Broad Street, Akron.  A private family interment will be held in Holy Cross Cemetery.
