Mary K. Gloster

Mary K Gloster, beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, left this world on Monday, January 13th, 2025. Mary was born to Bertha M. and Daniel A Gloster in Cortland, NY on June 5th, 1940. She moved to Groton in 1970 where she bought a small farm that was to become Rocky Top. She worked at Cornell for over 35 years starting in Engineering but moved to the School of Continuing Education and Summer Session. After retirement, she began a second act as a shepherdess. She fell in love with the Clun Forest breed of sheep and began raising them. She was an active member of the Clun Forest breed Association where she served as treasurer and then President. She learned to spin and took up her knitting needles again. She shared her ever growing knowledge of sheep with her grandchildren who raised and showed their own sheep and goats in 4H. She served on the Town of Groton Planning Board from 2002 until 2012 and was on the County Board of Directors for Farm Bureau from 2004 to 2013. Mary is survived by her daughter, Colleen Gloster-Gray (Dan), her two grandsons, Daniel Gray (Molly) and Zane Gray (Victoria) and her granddaughter, Katherine (Aaron). She had five great-grandchildren, Peyton, Riley, Leo, Easton and Cullen. There will be no calling hours, but a Celebration of Life is planned for June 7th on the family farm surrounded by her beloved sheep.
