Mary BelleIsle Godwin passed away peacefully at Traces of Tiger in Tiger, Georgia, on Friday, October 3, 2025.
Born in Ashville, N. Carolina, on July 8, 1937, she was a member of East Cobb United Methodist Church.
Mary's life was filled with love and devotion to her family. She is fondly remembered for her unwavering kindness and the joy she found in welcoming others into her home. Known affectionately as "Mimi," her grandchildren, Taylor and Mary-Evelyn, held a special place in her heart. She cherished every moment with her family and her friends, who became like family to her.
Favorite hobbies included gardening, canning, sewing and crocheting, and Mary took great pleasure in sharing her skills and her handiwork with others. Some of her happiest days were spent at a second home in Orange Beach, Alabama, where Mary loved gathering shells on the beach and hosting family and friends. Everyone who visited holds dear the warmth, the fun and the laughter that could always be found in both homes.
Mary was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Arthur Godwin; her loving parents, Howard and Eugenia BelleIsle; and her beloved daughter, Jill Godwin Hunt, whose memory Mary treasured throughout her life.
Surviving close family members include Mary's son, Jeff Godwin, and his wife, Debi; her grandson, Taylor Hunt, and his wife, Madison; her granddaughter, Mary-Evelyn Kirkland, and her husband, Cody; her great-grandson, Everett Hunt; her son-in-law, Steve Hunt, and his wife, Joy.
The family wishes to express appreciation to Grace Higgins and the staff of Graceful Care Senior Living, as well as the staff at Traces of Tiger Senior Living, for the loving care they provided to Mary.
A private celebration of life is planned for a later date at Mary's home in Marietta, Georgia.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Whitfield Funeral Homes and Crematory, North Chapel.
