Ottawa Funeral Home and CrematoryMary V Grant, 85, of Ottawa, passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends on Friday, January 23, 2026. Mary was born on March 28, 1940 to Alice and James Comparon. She is survived by her sons, Jimmy (Jacqui) Grant of Bradford, Rick Grant of Ottawa, Chris Grant (Eric) of Phoenix Arizona, and one daughter, Alicha Hartman (Mike), of Ottawa; 6 grandchildren, Meghan (Andy) White, Taylor (Will) Wallerstedt, Ricky Grant (Hailey), Jacob Grant, Rikki Lee Schamp, Clayton Hartman; 6 great-grandchildren, Logan, Ava Jo, Ella White, Allie Jo, Gracie Mae Wallerstedt, and Chloe Gran. Mary was so blessed to have her cousin, Connie Neisler, and her daughter, Breanna, along with her friend, Marion Podgorske, by her side until the end.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two sons, TJ Grant (infant) and Charlie Sharp, and one grandson, Nicholas Schamp. Mary was an incredible woman who loved her family and friends fiercely. She never knew a stranger and was always willing to help anyone in need. She had a great sense of humor and a laugh that filled a room. She was a Nascar enthusiast, and especially loved Rusty Wallace. One of her favorite memories was a "Rusty Wallace" cruise she and her son Chris enjoyed together. She loved watching westerns and enjoyed country music, especially Alan Jackson. Christmas was one of her favorite times of the year. She was known for her intricate wrapping of gifts, as well as her amazing Christmas tree that glittered with tinsel and lights. She loved to spend time with her family and friends. She never missed sending a card for anniversaries, birthdays, holidays or just to say hello. She could brighten up anyone's day with her smile and humor.
Mary worked a variety of jobs, bringing joy to each of them with her vibrant personality. She was a factory worker, ran a cleaning business in Colorado, worked at Curves, and in her later years loved working in home health. Mary loved lobster at her favorite restaurant, Monari's 101, or you could find her at her other favorites, The Highway Restaurant and Cracker Barrel. Mary lived a full life and was deeply loved by her family and friends. She will be greatly missed until we meet again in Heaven.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 8, at 11:00am at Crossbridge Community Church, with Pastor Sherry Stevenson officiating. A luncheon will follow at the church. Cremation rites have been entrusted to Ottawa Funeral Home.
