Mary Haith Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Sharpe Funeral Home, Inc. on Nov. 5, 2024.
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mary Sellars Haith a devoted mother, grandmother, and compassionate nurse, who passed away peacefully on November 5, 2024, at the age of 99.
Mary was born on March 29, 1925 in Burlington, North Carolina to the late William and Virgie (Smith) Sellars. After graduating from Jordan Sellars High School, she pursued her passion for caring for others and earned her nursing degree from Kate Bitting Reynolds School of Nursing in Winston Salem, North Carolina. She spent over 40 years as a registered public health nurse dedicating her life to the well-being of her patients.
Whether working in hospitals, public schools or providing care in patients' homes, Mary's gentle touch, kind spirit, and unwavering commitment made her a beloved figure in the healthcare community.
Mary's nurturing nature extended beyond her professional life. As a mother of three, a grandmother to four and great grandmother to three, she poured love and wisdom into her family, teaching them the values of empathy, patience, and resilience. Her home was always open, and her door was always open to friends and families in need.
Throughout her life, Mary was known for her warm smile, her calming presence, and her tireless devotion to others. She was a pillar of strength in her community, volunteering for various causes and always offering her help when someone was in need. Whether she was volunteering for charity, organizing a church event, or simply offering a listening ear, Mary was a dear friend and confidant to many.
Mary's faith was central to her life, and she found great comfort in her Ebenezer United Church of Christ church community, where she was a lifelong member. She cherished time spent in prayer, and her belief in the power of kindness and compassion remained steadfast throughout her years.
She is survived by her children, Yolanda (Lonnie), Louis Jr., and Beverly (Frankie); her grandchildren, Jonathan, Cameron (Jennifer), Tyson; great- grandchildren, Reice, Kaleighya, and Adrian; brother, Lewis Sellars, as well as several nieces, nephews, and extended family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Louis Sr. and siblings, William Henry, Minor Ruth, Virginia, Gordon, Lucien and John.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Hospice of Alamance County.
Mary's legacy of love, care, and selflessness will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. She will be deeply missed, but never forgotten.

I remember Mrs Haith taking the time out of her Busy Schedule to offer a much needed helping hand to a young unwed mother. Providing transportation and encouragement to this person, so that she understood there were actions she could take to improve herself and be a better mom! That young woman was myself and I never stopped being grateful for her intervention, information and caring! Not a doubt in my mind this lady was welcomed into the open arms of the Heavenly Father not just for the kindness she showed me but so many others! RIP Mrs. Haith, transitioned from an angel on earth to an angel in Heaven!
