Mary Lavina Howlett, born on May 9, 1934, in Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away peacefully at her home in Arvada, Colorado, on February 13, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother who embodied love throughout her life.
Mary began her career as a full-time wife and mother before branching out in real estate after her children had grown. Her dedication to her family was unwavering; she was always active in caring for them and readily took her grandchildren to the family lake house, where they made countless joyful memories fishing and enjoying the beauty of nature together with their "Nanny and Papa".
A pillar of support for her family, Mary was the kind of person that others could lean on. She had a loving and strong personality, which contributed to the close-knit bond shared among her loved ones. Her proudest accomplishments were rooted deeply in her commitment to her family, and she cherished her roles as a wife, mother and grandmother above all else.
Mary leaves behind her three beloved children: Doug Howlett and his wife Sandy, Mary Ellen Hilliard, Brenda Pfeifer and her husband Gary. She was a proud grandmother to 13 grandchildren and a doting great-grandmother to nineteen great-grandchildren, as well as two great-great-grandchildren, all of whom were enriched by her kindness and unwavering affection. She also leaves behind her dear younger sister, Sharon Van Meter.
Mary is lovingly remembered by her family, who will carry her spirit in their hearts. She is preceded in death by her husband, Hal, and her daughter, Deb Johnson, and Deb's husband Mike. Her legacy of love and family will forever resonate in the lives she touched.
