Mary John Hodges Aycock was born December 15, 1934 in Eupora, Mississippi to John Calvin and Lorene Phillips Hodges. She passed away November 17th, 2025.
Mary received a bachelor's degree in Business Education from Mississippi State University in 1959 and a Master's degree in Business Administration with a major in accounting from Memphis State University in 1982. She made her home in Memphis from 1970 to 1996 and retired to Fayetteville in December, 1996.
Mary spent her 40-year career working in management accounting positions in manufacturing facilities, specializing in design, implementation, and supervision of cost accounting systems. She was active in and served in leadership roles in the Institute of Management Accountants, which promotes continuing education and excellence in the field. She considered as one of her greatest achievements being the representative of the Memphis Chapter of IMA on a cultural exchange tour of Russia, Finland and Estonia and presenting a paper on cost accounting at the Institute of Finance and Economics in St. Petersburg.
Active in civic organizations, Mary served in leadership roles in both the Whitehaven Civitan Club and the East Memphis Civitan Club. She was active in fundraising for Special Olympics and for mental disabilities research.
Also active in historical organizations, Mary served as Chaplain of the Adam Dale Chapter DAR and acted as a docent at the historical home owned by the Memphis chapters of DAR.
In Memphis Mary took part in administrative and music areas at both the oldest church in Shelby County, Tennessee (Longstreet Methodist) and at Christ Methodist Church. She was organist for Longstreet Methodist for 14 years.
After moving to Fayetteville, Mary served as President of Fayetteville Newcomers' Club and Chapter K P.E.O., treasurer of Flaming Hills Garden Club and treasurer of the Fayetteville Symphony Guild. She was active in Central United Methodist Church where she was a member of Asbury Sunday School Class, Circle 1 UMW, a member of the UMW Executive Board and accompanist for the Senior Saints Choir.
Mary traveled extensively, loved books, classical music, bridge and college sports. Her favorite charity was Cooperative Emergency Outreach.
In 2010 Mary moved to
Prairie Grove, Arkansas where she was a member of First Presbyterian Church. In 2020, Mary moved to her daughters farm after a fall. She enjoyed her final years in the peace and beauty of the mountain.
Devoted to her family, she is survived by her daughter, Marilyn Miles and husband Dennis; son, Andy Aycock and wife Janie; grandchildren, Dennis Miles, Allie Davis, Macy Forsythe; great-grandchild, Kingston Forsythe; Nephews John and George Hodges.
The family will receive friends Thursday, November 20, 2025, 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM at the Luginbuel Chapel.
Funeral Service will be held 10:00 AM Friday, November 21st, 2025, at Luginbuel Chapel in
Prairie Grove, Arkansas. Burial will be in the Eupora Cemetery in Eupora, Mississippi Monday, November 24th, 2025 at 1 P.M.
