Mary E. Johnigk, 82, of Bartonville, passed away at 12:20 AM on Tuesday, November 25, 2025 at Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria. She was born on May 25, 1943 in Peoria, a daughter of Fred B. and Marie (Schwerer) Otten. She married Joseph Johnigk on August 1, 1964 in Peoria. He survives.
Also surviving are her children, Dana (Jay) McNeil of Peoria; Daniel (Kelly) Johnigk of Peoria; Dawn (David) Buchanan of Maquon; ten grandchildren, Liam (Skylar) Buchanan, Aurora Buchanan, Cora Buchanan, Kellyn Buchanan, Nikki (Ryan) Moran, Devin Hinton, Maura Johnigk, Danielle Johnigk, Eren Johnigk, Rose Johnigk, and brother, James (Diane) Otten of Peoria.
Preceding Mary in death were her parents, and sister, Janet Gorman.
Mary graduated from the Academy of Our Lady. She held the position of office manager for Johnigk Chiropractic & Laser Clinic and was a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church (formerly St. Boniface) in Peoria. With a lifelong love for music, she gave piano lessons throughout her youth. She played the organ from the age of 10 until she was no longer able, playing at St. Ann's every Sunday, and she and her husband regularly volunteered their musical talents at area nursing homes. Her commitment to music was recognized in 2005 with the Pere Marquette Award, a prestigious service honor bestowed by the Catholic Diocese for over 20 years of service in the music field. She had a love for crocheting and always had her crochet with her wherever she went. Her thoughtfulness was expressed by crocheting blankets for family and friends, as well as making black raspberry jelly, baking cookies and sending cards. She had a special ability to be able to ship those cookies without a single cookie being broken. Mary was always positive, kind and caring, dedicated to her husband and family and would do anything for them. She was loved by all who knew her.
Per Mary's wishes, cremation rites will be accorded through Endsley-Sedgwick Funeral Home in Bartonville. A celebration of life gathering will be held at a later date. Memorials can be made to St. Ann's Catholic Church. To leave online condolences please visit www.sedgwickfuneralhomes.com
