We mourn the loss and celebrate the life and legacy of Mary Kathy Kemp, 51, of Shreveport, LA.
Kathy, as she was known by many, was born on December 2, 1973 to Dorothy J. Easter Kemp and Leo Kemp, Jr. in Shreveport, LA as the sixth child of seven. She accepted Jesus at a very young age. Her parents remember Kathy, as a child, kneeling in front of the television, clutching her tiny hands together in prayer every morning. They also remember her speaking words that would eventually come to pass. Thankfully, Kathy remained committed to Christ until the end.
In the family, Kathy was spoiled by everyone. Although not the youngest child, she was definitely the "baby" of the family. She was simultaneously a Momma's Girl and a Daddy's Girl. "My Kitty Kat", is what her Dad nicknamed her. Kathy was extremely intelligent. She effortlessly excelled in grade school, high school (Huntington High School, 1992) and college, obtaining multiple degrees, including Bachelors and Masters Degrees. Her life-long dream was to own and operate a day care center. She never actualized that dream as a business, but she fulfilled her dream as an independent caretaker for countless children – who became her forever babies. Kathy would host children at her home regularly, even hosting an annual summer bash for her nieces, nephews, greats nieces and nephews and children of her friends. This annual gift brought her so much joy that she was committed to fulfilling this even while feeling unwell. She loved her babies.
