Funeral services for John David "JD" Nerren, 75, of Huntington, will be held Sunday, December 7, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at Shafer Funeral Home in
Lufkin, Texas with Pastor Jackson Colwell officiating. Interment will follow at Jonesville Cemetery in Huntington, Texas.
Mr. Nerren was born on August 23, 1950, in
Lufkin, Texas, to John Russell (Jake) Nerren and Opal (Freeman) Nerren, and passed away peacefully at home in Huntington with some of his family on the morning of Wednesday, December 3, 2025. He has now joined his very beloved mother, Opal, and his faithful dog, Capp, in eternal rest with his Lord and Savior.
He carried the spirit of his East Texas Pineywoods roots throughout his life. In his youth, he was a proud part of Huntington High School's basketball team. His love for horses led him to actively participate in the Angelina County Mounted Patrol for several years, where he made many enduring friendships at the County Expo.
JD spent his life under hoods and behind the wheel, happiest with grease on his hands and a project in the shop. He had a deep, professional passion for trucks, especially his Macks. His C.B. handle was "Hard Times". He was a man who either knew how to fix an engine or knew exactly the person who could. JD's greatest passion was cars, a love he shared enthusiastically with his family and friends. Among his favorites was his cherished '69 crystal green Metallic Ford Gran Torino 428 Cobra Jet, a subject of many fond stories he loved to share. In later years, he found a strong affinity for the El Camino and enjoyed many weekends working on these cars with his children, Emily and Mike.
Beyond the shop, JD found great joy in his relationship with Jesus, a love he actively nurtured and shared by posting inspirational scriptures for his family and friends online. He was a man who treasured quiet, ordinary things that made his days worth living - simple wins and steady comforts. He was a fixture at Little Boots in Huntington, where he would affectionately complain about the coffee but kept returning because he loved the company. He was a hardworking man that cherished the feeling of a job done right, an engine that started on the first turn, a horse finally trusting him, or a slow breakfast shared with his son Mike, often glowing with pride.
Mr. Nerren held his children close to his heart. He carried them in his stories, in the way his face would change when he spoke of them, and in a steady belief in who they were and what they could handle. His pride in his children was deep, and when they needed him, he met them with soft hands and an open ear, offering no judgment, just steady, unwavering love.
