Mary Klasman Beaman Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by H.D Oliver Funeral Apartments, Inc. - Laskin Road Chapel on Jan. 16, 2026.
Mary Jane Klasman Beaman, 97, passed away peacefully on January 9, 2026. She was preceded in death by her parents, Margaret Britt Klasman and Irwin William Klasman; her sister, Margaret Ann Klasman Wynne Doolin; and her devoted husband of 66 years, Walter Camp Beaman, Jr.
She is survived by her children, Asa Jeremiah Camp and his wife, Debbie, Patricia Dale Beaman, Juliet Lynne Stegemann and her husband, August. She is also survived by her favorite and only granddaughter, Amanda Lynne Dworetzky, and her husband, Alexander, as well as her nephew, David Irwin Wynne.
Mary Jane graduated from Granby High School and later attended Longwood College before marrying her high school sweetheart, Walter Beaman. In the early years of her marriage, she devoted herself to raising her family and to volunteer work in mental health.
In her 50s, Mary Jane returned to college, earning her Bachelor of Arts degree from Virginia Wesleyan College in 1982 and her Master's degree in Social Work from Norfolk State University in 1984. She worked in various social work roles, primarily in psychiatric social work. She often shared that, aside from raising her children, completing her education as an older adult was one of her greatest accomplishments.
Following her husband's retirement, Mary Jane and Walter enjoyed many peaceful years in their home on Bay Island, where they spent time boating, gardening, enjoying the beach, and vacations to the Outer Banks and Florida. Mary Jane's favorite hobby was reading and learning throughout her life. She was a member of All Saints Episcopal Church in Virginia Beach.
A service will be held on Tuesday, January 20, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at the Chapel of H.D. Oliver, 2002 Laskin Road, Virginia Beach 23454. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to All Saints Episcopal Church, 1969 Woodside Lane, Virginia Beach, VA 23454.
