Christopher Foy Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by H.D Oliver Funeral Apartments, Inc. - Laskin Road Chapel on Mar. 18, 2026.
Christopher William "Chris" Foy, 69, known to family and friends by playful nicknames including Foy Boy, Magella Gorilla, Bli, and Pops, passed away on February 22, 2026, surrounded by his loving family and friends after a courageous battle with stomach cancer. He faced his illness with strength and never lost his love for life.

Chris was born on September 13, 1956, in Norfolk, Virginia, to Edward and Marcia Foy. He grew up in a Navy family, moving around the United States and spending time in London, England, an experience he loved that shaped his adventurous spirit. The family eventually settled in Virginia Beach, where he graduated from Kempsville High School.

As an adult, he lived in Virginia Beach, Virginia; Kitty Hawk, North Carolina; and Jaco, Costa Rica, always drawn to the ocean and new experiences. Traveling widely, Chris formed close friendships and embraced adventure wherever life took him.

In 1976, he founded Christopher Foy Inc. Custom Roofing, serving homes along the Virginia and North Carolina coasts. He took pride in every roof he built, from unique designs to challenging copper and steep-pitch projects. Chris never shied away from a tough job or lending a hand to a friend, whether building decks, repairing skylights, or tackling any project that needed his expertise.

Chris loved the outdoors and staying active. Winters were for skiing, summers for diving and water-skiing, and he chased the waves year-round through surfing, a passion that kept him connected to the ocean and his friends. He traveled to surf destinations around the world, including Bali, Indonesia, and later embraced life in Costa Rica, enjoying the "Pura Vida" lifestyle he loved.

He passed on that adventurous spirit to his daughters, encouraging them to explore, take risks, and embrace new experiences. Stubborn, kind, and a little wild, Chris had a playful sense of humor and dance moves that could light up any room.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Marcia Foy; his brother, Gary Foy; his in-laws, Mary and Ron Monroe; and his nephew, Harrison Spear.

He is survived by his wife, Christina Monroe Foy; daughters Alison Suraci (Tim) of California, Lindsey Skinner (Stephen) of Maine, Megan Yeo (Charlie) of Virginia, and Riley Foy of North Carolina; his nine grandchildren, who affectionately called him "Surfer Dude Grandpa"; his brother, Keith Foy (Joni); and many nieces, extended family members, and friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held on March 21, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. at H.D. Oliver Funeral Apartments – Laskin Road Chapel, 2002 Laskin Road, Virginia Beach, VA 23454. A gathering to celebrate Chris's life will follow at the home of his sister and brother-in-law, Lisa and Carl Spear, at 220 73rd Street, Virginia Beach, VA 23451.

Chris will be remembered for his adventurous spirit, infectious energy, and unwavering determination to live on his own terms. Even in his final days, he fought tirelessly and dreamed of returning to the places he loved most. He leaves behind a legacy of curiosity, courage, and joy that will continue to inspire all who knew him.
