Mary C. Krantz, 85, passed away peacefully at home in her sleep, on February 17, 2026. She was born on Christmas Day in 1940 in Somerville.  Mary (McSweeney) was married for 49 years to her late husband, John “Jack” Krantz. Formerly of Somerville, she was the loving mother to Caroline Krantz (and her husband James Beatson) of Quincy; Christine Krantz of Boston, the late John Krantz of Peabody, and the late Mark Krantz of Quincy. Her constant companion was her dog, Marcus, whom she sadly lost a few months ago.

Mary was the sister of the late AnnMarie McGrath of Lynn and a proud grandmother to Alex Krantz of Peabody, Molly Bauer (Beatson) of Norwell, Colin Beatson of Duxbury, Liam Beatson of Los Angeles, and Madeline Beatson of Portsmouth. It was well known—and fully accepted—that Alex was her favorite, even among her own children.

Mary was a long-time employee of Carney Hospital, serving as a receptionist in the inpatient psychiatric unit in her last role, where she collected some unforgettable stories. She left Carney when she and Jack moved to Shanghai for a year during Jack’s work with Gillette. She spoke fondly of that time, living what she called “the good life” in a four-star hotel.

An avid traveler, Mary spent three weeks every year in Aruba and returned with the deepest, darkest tan—despite being entirely Irish. Her favorite trips, however, were to Ireland with her sister and close friends. She was immensely proud of her Irish heritage.

For the last six years of her life, Mary lived at The Moorings in Quincy, a place she truly loved. She often joked that if she ever won the lottery, her children would have to cash the ticket for her so she wouldn’t be forced to move.

Mary had many passions. She loved her friends, art, reading, music, movies, Boston sports, dancing, “getting some sun”, scratch tickets, sneaking to Encore Casino, eating sweets, shopping at the Goodwill, playing the piano, cards, Taboo, Scrabble, throwing out the occasional F bomb—and, of course, Alex.

She was a woman of great strength and resilience, and she will be greatly missed.

In honor of Mary, in lieu of flowers, please make a donation to a local animal shelter or a charity of your choice.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visiting hours on Wednesday, February 25th from 4-7 PM in the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St., QUINCY. Funeral service will be celebrated on Thursday, Feb. 26th at 11 AM in Keohane Funeral Home, Quincy.
