Mary Kaye Laban

Mary K. Laban, 84, widow of Walter S Laban, passed away on Saturday, September 21, 2024, at her residence in Beaufort, following a fall and short illness. MaryKaye was born March 4, 1940, in Mount Clemens, MI, (but raised in SC - we don't get to choose where we're born) the daughter of the late Mary (Shuler) Sibrans of SC and Dr. William Albert Sibrans of NY. MaryKaye loved her family and friends dearly. Her grandchildren and great-grands were the world to her. She was a hard worker, be it surviving boot camp, raising her children, working retail, sorting mail in a small country Post Office, or being the courier for Stokes Automotive dealerships in Beaufort. She spent her spare time sewing and crocheting, particularly baby afghans and blankets. MaryKaye found great comfort and a sense of community within the Beth Israel Congregation. Surviving are her son Joe (Jeannine) Laban and daughter Elisabeth "Betsy" Laban; 6 grandchildren Zac Laban, MaryMargaret Laban, Christopher (Lindsay) Laban, Michael Laban, Ryan (Lauren) Laban, and Kate Laban; as well as 5 great-grands – Marley, Carson, Mei, Emi, and Lily. Her brothers and sister, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Graveside Services with Military Honors will be held at 10 AM on Monday, September 30, 2024, at the Beaufort National Cemetery. She is preceded in death by her husband, Walt; a son, David; and her parents. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to Beth Israel Congregation (P.O. Box 328, Beaufort, SC 29901).
