Mary Louise Lapointe, age 80, passed with dignity on November 12 after a period of declining health. She is survived by her son, Jon H. Lapointe, and his wife, Emily J. Hopkins, of Pasadena, CA, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. A daughter, Amy M. (Lapointe) Toomey, pre-deceased her in 2006. Her husband, Roland H. Lapointe Jr, passed away in March 2025.

Born in Worcester, "Mary Lou" was the sixth and youngest child of the late Eugene R. Cormier and Ruth M. (Killelea) Cormier of Upton. At the time of her passing, Mary was the sole surviving sibling.

Mary lived in Upton, Grafton, Uxbridge, and Hopedale, MA. She was a graduate of Saint Mary's High School in Milford, MA. Following training at Saint Vincent Hospital School of Nursing, she worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse at several care facilities in the region. Following a work injury, she concluded her nursing tenure at UMass Memorial Hospital in Worcester, where she worked in the Oncology and Palliative Care Unit.

Starting as a mail carrier and then a clerk, Mary shifted careers in the early '80s and worked for the United States Post Office's Upton and West Upton branches for over twenty years. She retired early to care for her daughter, Amy, who died of cancer at the age of 33.

Mary loved deeply and unconditionally. She was famous for her hospitality, her sweet and (sometimes) acerbic sense of humor, her kindness towards all living beings, and her superlative cooking (especially baked goods). She loved her dogs, her family, and her many friends, both lifelong and new.

Following cremation, her remains will be buried in Lakeview Cemetery in Upton. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made in Mary's name to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute to support research and patient care. Donations can be made online or by check (Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, P.O. Box 849168, Boston, MA 02284).
