Beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend Mary Cotter Lehmann was born on May 21st, 1940 to Edward and Lela Cotter. She was born and raised in Alton, Illinois with her two sisters, Fran and Sally and her brother, Sam. Mary loved her hometown and made many lifelong friends there. In her early 20’ she and her good friend Janice, made the big move to Kansas City. They settled near downtown KC and she got a job at Home Savings and Loan. There she met Bob Lehmann. They were married in August 1965. Three years later, they welcomed daughter Sarah and 18 months after that, daughter Betsy. They built a house in south Kansas City on Stark Avenue and joined St. Regis Parish. Mary once again made many lifelong friends on Stark Street. It was a dead-end street and many of the families were very close. So many great Stark Street memories!
Mary was a homemaker while the girls were young and later went to work for Doctors Meyers and Abercrombie. She of course made more lifelong friends there. She retired from there in 2005.
Her greatest joy in life were her daughters, grandchildren and great- grandson. She was always our biggest cheerleader and advocate. She rarely missed a sporting event, play, graduation or any activity the kids were doing. She loved to babysit and did it often. Later in life, she and Bob took the entire family on many wonderful cruises and vacations. Her love for her children and grandchildren was immense and we all loved her so much. She was rarely without a smile on her face and usually had a kind word for everyone she met. Through her many hospitalizations, doctor appointments and cancer treatments she was always sweet and grateful to all the medical staff she encountered.
She has always had a strong Catholic faith and prayed the rosary daily. We know she is now up in heaven with Bob and her parents.
Mary is predeceased by her parents, Edward and Lela; her husband Bob; her brother-n-law Jack and her nephew Tom. She is survived by her daughters, Sarah and Betsy; her son-in-law Andy; her grandchildren, Ellie (Matt), Thomas (Katelyn), Mary and Clara; her great grandson, Noah; sisters Fran and Sally; brother Sam; sister-in-law Marcia; nieces Mary Ann, Amy, Jenny and Monica; nephews Eric and Mark and her faithful companion Henry.
Services for Mary will take place at a later date when out of town family can attend. In lieu of flowers please make donations to Our Lady of the Presentation Catholic church or the American Cancer Society.
