Wichita Falls ~ Mary Anita Long, 95, went to be with our Lord Wednesday, January 15, 2025 in Wichita Falls.
Funeral is 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 18th, at Hawkins Funeral Home in Bridgeport with burial at Cumby Cemetery. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Anita was born on December 27, 1929 to Walker L. and Gertrude M. (Roach) Whatley in Chico. She was united in marriage to George W. Long, Sr. on April 21, 1973 in Houston, they were together for 40 beautiful years before his passing in 2013. Anita was the city secretary for the City of Chico for numerous years and she was a member of Carter Lake Baptist Church in Bowie and when she moved to Wichita Falls, she became a member of Western Hills Baptist Church. She was a beloved stepmother, aunt, sister, and a friend to many that will miss her dearly.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Walker and Gertrude Whatley; her husband, George W. Long, Sr.; her sister, Jackye Whatley; and her brothers, Robert “Bobby”, Jerry, Ray, and C.J. Whatley.
Those left behind to cherish her memory are her siblings, Nell Walker of Frederick, Oklahoma, Margaret “Dot” Whatley of Gainesville, Shirley Cary and husband Danny of Wichita Falls, and Leland Whatley and wife Mary of Wichita Falls; her step-sons, George W. Long III and wife Glenda of Fort Worth, Brett Long of Colorado, and Blake Long of Colorado; numerous other relatives and a host of friends.
