Mary Lou (Hernandez) Fuentes, age 69, of McKinney, Texas, passed away peacefully on August 2, 2025, surrounded by her loved ones. She was born on April 9, 1956, in McKinney, Texas, and lived a life full of love, strength, and unwavering devotion to her family and faith.
Mary Lou was the heart of her family — a proud mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her warmth, resilience, and strong spirit touched the lives of all who knew her. She carried her faith with grace and passed that strength and love on to the generations who follow her.
She is survived by her children: Estelle Cantu-McElwey and husband Mark McElwey; Amanda Hernandez and husband Jesse Rodriguez; David Cantu; Hope Reynolds and husband Wesley Reynolds; and Jorge Fuentes. She was a loving grandmother to Jessica Lopez, Jasmine Lopez, Bean Lopez, Alex Cantu, Rogelio Cantu, Noah Jimenez, Niko Jimenez, Ryan Reynolds, Sophia Fuentes, Penelope Fuentes, and Mia Rodriguez. She was also blessed with great-grandchildren: Bria Rollison, Iris Hardin, and Violet Cantu.
Mary Lou was preceded in death by her parents, Manuel and Ascension Hernandez; her brothers Joe Hernandez and Julian “Chevo” Hernandez; and her beloved nephew, J.J. Hernandez.
Her legacy lives on in the strength of her children, the love shared among her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and the memories cherished by all who knew her. Her faith and family were her greatest joys, and her presence will be deeply missed.
