It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Mary Lou Scott, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and devoted educator, who peacefully departed from this world on October 3, 2025, at the age of 100. Mary Lou was born on September 1, 1925, in Charleston, West Virginia, and lived a life marked by love, dedication, and a vibrant spirit that touched the lives of all who knew her. Mary Lou pursued her passion for education, earning a Bachelor's Degree and dedicating her career as a teacher in the Milford Exempted Village Schools with over 30 years of service. She inspired countless students with her infectious enthusiasm and nurturing approach to learning.

Her commitment to education was paralleled only by her devotion to her family-she was an anchor of support especially after the passing of her spouse of almost 50 years, John G. "Jack" Scott. Her love for her sons, John "Jerry" (Paula) Scott, II, and Thomas (Marcia) Scott, as well as her grandchildren, Stephanie (Matt) Benjamin, John (Anna) Scott, Emily (Michael O'Donnell) Cline, Ashley Scott, Sarah (Martin) Luschek. She welcomed the joy of great-grandchildren into her life, who brought her immense happiness: Connor, Jayden, Kaylee, Hannah, Gabriel, Katelyn, Zander, Jaxon, Lexi, Carli, TJ and Olivia. In addition to her role as a mother and teacher, Mary Lou had many passions that illuminated her days. She was an avid gardener, finding solace and joy in tending to her plants, and she cherished moments spent fishing with family and friends. Her culinary skills were legendary-every meal was prepared with love and care, often shared with loved ones gathered around her table. Mary Lou's strong faith led her to be an active member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church, where she played a pivotal role in community activities, particularly through her cherished participation in the church's Cookie Caper.

Mary Lou's legacy will live on through the many lives she touched-her spirit of love, laughter, and unwavering support for family and community will forever be remembered. As we reflect on her remarkable life, we invite those who knew and loved her to join us in honoring her memory. While celebrating her 100 birthday recently, she was featured on a segment of WLW channel 5 news and the story was picked up nationally by NBC Nightly News.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 11, 2025 at 11:00 AM in the St. Thomas Episcopal Church, Terrace Park with a ceremony that will celebrate Mary Lou's life and the indelible mark she made on all who had the privilege of knowing her. Friends and family are invited to gather at St. Thomas at 10:00AM.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in her memory to St. Thomas Episcopal Church or a charity of your choice. Mary Lou leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and an enduring passion for education and family. Her light will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of all who carry her memory forward.

Mary Lou was preceded in death by: her parents Walter & Rose West, husband John G. Scott, granddaughter Christina Marie Scott, brother Donald West, and sister Arlene Kareken.
