Mary Martinez Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Mission Park Funeral Chapels Cherry Ridge on Nov. 5, 2024.
Our loving mother, Mary Olga Martinez, age 90, died peacefully, surrounded by family on October 29, 2024. Olga was born in San Antonio, TX, the 5th of 7 children, to Juan and Modesta Gonzales on November 24, 1933. She was preceded in death by her adoring husband, John J. Martinez. We are overjoyed that they are finally reunited in Heaven!
Mom was a very devout Catholic and a proud graduate of Ursuline Academy. She was active in many activities and organizations at each of the parishes she belonged to throughout her life. One of her favorite activities was visiting hospitals as a Eucharistic Minister. She shared her steadfast faith openly and, through her clear example, brought many to The Lord.
"Olgita", "the little lady" or, as Dad called her, "the lady in charge", never cared much for cooking but still made sure that all of her family and anyone who visited were well fed. She loved to sew and was always working on projects and gifts for her children and grandchildren. While she suffered from Dementia in her final years, she still recognized and loved her family, saying often that she was lucky God had blessed her with so many children. Her legacy is the close-knit, loving and united family that she and Dad built and nurtured. A special thanks goes to her granddaughter, Vionna, who has been her care giver and loving companion for many years.
Olga is survived by her 6 children Sandy Barbosa (Mando), Ken Martinez (Jenn Montemayor), Barbara Gutierrez (Rick), Diana Stanfield, Monica Martinez and Paul Martinez (Susy), her 15 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandsons. She is also survived by her 2 sisters, Dolores Campos (Charlie) and Marta Ayala (Arthur) as well as, many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will begin at 5:00 P.M. followed by the Rosary at 6:00 P.M. on Friday, Nov. 15, 2024 at Mission Park Funeral Chapel North, 3401 Cherry Ridge Dr., San Antonio, TX 78230
Funeral Mass will be on Saturday, Nov. 16, 2024 at 10:00 A.M. at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 4201 De Zavala Rd., San Antonio, TX 78249. Reception will follow.
Interment will be at a later date, for the family, at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
