Mary Elizabeth Mitchell McDermott, 74, of Rison, passed away, Friday, August 15, 2025.

Born June 24, 1951, at Humboldt, Tennessee, she was the daughter of the late James Oris Mitchell, Sr. & Sarah Elizabeth Dobbins Mitchell.

She was a 1969 graduate of Pine Bluff High School and worked in Social Services for Trinity Village.

For Mary, family was everything. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She was strong in her faith and love for Jesus as a member of Center Missionary Baptist Church in Rowell; and Mary loved her church family dearly. She found great joy spending time outdoors, she loved gardening and working with flowers to make things beautiful as well as fishing with her husband. Mary took great pride in caring for her family, her love was often shown through her cooking, especially the family's traditional "boiled custard" at holidays. Her sense of humor and quick wit were well-known as she often enjoyed a good joke or jab. Her absence will be felt, but so will her spirit, as it will be carried in our hearts.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Paul McDermott, and a brother, James Mitchell, Jr.

She is survived by her loving husband of 55 years, James McDermott, to whom she was married, April 7, 1970; a daughter, Samantha Wingard (Christopher); a brother, Tommy Mitchell (Linda); granddaughters, Kaitlyn Webb (Jesse), Cameron Webb (Seth), and Isabella Wingard; grandson, Braxton Wingard; great-granddaughter on the way-Laiklynn James; niece, Margo Peach (Jackie); nephews, Mike Mitchell (Mandi), Brad Mitchell and James Mitchell; honorary children, Sarah Lunsford and her son Dillon, as well as a host other extended family members and friends who will miss her greatly.

A memorial service will be held Tuesday, 11:00 am, August 19, 2025, at Center Missionary Baptist Church in Rowell, Arkansas, with Brother Doney Blackerby officiating.

Visitation will begin prior to services at 10:00 a.m.
