Mary I. McGuyre, 86, of Elkhart, died at home on Friday, May 3, 2024.
Mary was born Nov. 27, 1937, in Van Buren, Arkansas, to the late William F. and Alice A. (Vail) McGuyre. Also preceding her in death are a daughter, Carol Burns; two brothers, James and William McGuyre; and four sisters, Bobbie Kersey, Velta Stroder, Shirley Jenkins and Georgia Bowen.
She is survived by three sons: Robert H. (Susan) Burns Jr. of Elkhart, Roger (Louise) Burns of Arkansas, Alan (Amanda) Burns of Martinsville, Illinois; one daughter, Linda (Mickey) English of Arkansas; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; and one sister, Elva Franks of Elkhart.
Mary worked at Miles/Bayer for 34 years, retiring in February 1999. At the time of her retirement, she worked in the quality control department and was also a union steward. She enjoyed bowling in a league and competed in the top flight. She also enjoyed playing golf, crocheting and knitting. Mary was also very artistic, even teaching her own ceramics class. She also enjoyed being outdoors.
Cremation will take place and a Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, May 26, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Mary's home, 26037 Northland Crossing in Elkhart. Memorial services will also be held in Arkansas. Hartzler-Gutermuth-Inman Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
