Ms. Mary "Jane" White Means, 96, passed away on Thursday, August 14, 2025, at her residence.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Burial will be private.
Born on March 14, 1929, to the late George H. and Madeline Lemley White, Jane enjoyed a successful career as a Realtor licensed in North Carolina, South Carolina, and Florida. More than her professional success, she will be remembered for the countless ways she made others feel loved, special, and truly seen.
Jane had a gift for making life's simple moments extraordinary - searching the beach for seashells, playing cards and chess on a rainy afternoon, or turning road trips and ski outings into adventures full of laughter. She celebrated her family's accomplishments more than they did themselves, shared her love of reading, art, golf, and travel, and offered wisdom and encouragement through every joy and challenge. Above all, she was a devoted listener whose inquisitive mind and presence reminded her family and friends that love is often best expressed in the smallest gestures.
Jane leaves behind a legacy of warmth, laughter, and cherished memories. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
In addition to her parents, Jane was preceded in death by her siblings, Jean (twin), Donna, David, and Pat, and her granddaughter, Lauren Means.
She is survived by Sons, Dr. Charles Robert "Bob" Means, Jr. and wife, Mary Margaret, of Salter Path, NC and Michael Means and wife, Cathryn, of Charlotte; Grandchildren, Charles Robert Means, III "Trey" and wife, Mary Abigail, of Kinston; Teryn-Elizabeth Bond and husband, Joseph, of Morehead City; Great-grandchildren, Charles Robert Means, IV, Audrey Kinlaw Means, Wells Theodore Means, and Oliver Marino Bond.
