Gary M. Dixon, Sr. of Syracuse, New York, passed away on October 14, 2025, at the age of 71. Born on October 5, 1954, in Watertown, New York, Gary was known for his loving and giving nature. He was a quiet man who embraced life with a calm demeanor, always accepting those around him without judgment.
Gary dedicated many years of his career working at Syracuse China until its closure and later contributed to the Syracuse City School District. His strong work ethic and commitment to his roles reflected his character, earning him the respect and admiration of his colleagues and community.
In his personal life, Gary was fond of collecting skulls and spent cherished moments camping at Cross Lake, driving around in his golf cart, taking his boat rides, and making s'mores around a campfire. He enjoyed staying busy, whether it was building and fixing things or indulging in simple pleasures like watching The Price is Right, enjoying ice-cold Pepsi, and eating Krispy Kreme donuts and popcorn. His classic car, a 1954 Mercury, was one of his proudest accomplishments alongside his move to North Carolina.
Gary was a devoted family man, leaving behind daughters Lauramay (Jeffrey Boisseau) Dixon, Raeshel (Thomas Hook) Dixon, and Shantel (Nicholas Blair) Dixon, alongside his beloved grandchildren: Jaela, Nicholas II, Elij, Trenton, Frank, Edwin, Aubriana, Levi, and Samuel. He is also survived by his brother, Jackie Dixon, and nieces and nephews, including Dawn, Jay, Billie Jo, Samantha, Joshua, and Justin. He also leaves behind his feline companions, Izzy and Squeaky.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin and Katherine Dixon; his son, Gary M. Dixon, Jr.; and his sister, Sherry Goodno.
Visitation will be held on October 18, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, located at 705 N Main St, Syracuse, NY 13212. Gary M.
