Mrs. Mary Margaret (Carson) Meeks passed away on Wednesday, December 20th at the age of 77 in the comfort of her home surrounded by family. She was born February 21st, 1946 in Washington, IA the daughter of W. Thomas and Lucille (Jacobson) Carson. Mary grew up with her brothers and sister in Washington, IA, where she graduated high school. She later attended college in Kirksville, Mo. She married Max Wayne Meeks, the love of her life, on April 17th, 1966.
During her life in Washington, she worked for McCleery Cumming Company, was a secretary for the United Methodist Church, and raised her children. She was also active in the church and her local Eastern Star Chapter. Mary moved with her family to Republic, Mo in 1993 where she worked for McDonalds until she retired. Mary was a talented artist and loved to craft. In retirement, she found purpose by making bookmarks for her local library and enjoyed spending time with her children, cats, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband Max Meeks, her parents W. Thomas and Lucille Carson, her mother and father-in-law Everett and Mary L. Meeks, her brother John (Jack) Carson, and her sister-in-law Pat Carson. She is survived by her daughter Leslie (Meeks) Loftin and husband Quinn Springfield, Mo, and son Thomas Meeks Springfield, Mo; brother Bill Carson Chariton, IA, sister Christine Carson, Springfield, Mo, two brothers-in-law Richard Meeks and wife Malinda, Oskaloosa, IA and Lewis Meeks and wife Cathi, Iowa City, IA; and several nieces and nephews.
A private inurnment for Mary will be held at Evergreen Cemetery in Republic, MO, under the direction of Meadors Funeral Home. A private viewing will be held on Saturday, January 5, 2024. Please RSVP with Leslie Loftin at 417-343-1551. In place of flowers, contributions are suggested to the Republic Branch of the Springfield Greene County Library.
