Mary S. Merrick ObituaryMary Merrick, 92, passed away on Thursday, March 6, 2025. She was born on March 29,1932, in Orange, NJ. She grew up in Maplewood, NJ and attended the University of Vermont where she met her future husband, Howard. They married on September 11,1954. Mary was a devoted wife and mother. After staying home to raise her boys, she worked as an administrative assistant for the local school, followed by an employment agency. Mary was very involved in the music ministry of the St. Mark United Methodist Church in Hamilton, NJ. She was a member of the Bell Choir. Mary loved gardening and was famous for baking up to 21 varieties of Christmas cookies. Her constant smile was contagious. Mary was the go-to person in the family for sewing. She did everything from darning socks to repairing stuffed animals.
She is survived by her sons, Steven (and his wife Joan) and Robert (and his wife Donna); 5 grandchildren, Michael (and his wife Lindsey), Jeffrey, Andrew (and his wife Jennifer), Kevin (and his wife Linda) and Laura as well as 4 great-grandchildren, Owen, Henry, Declan and Brendan.
She passed away peacefully in her sleep on Thursday, March 6,2025. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, March 12, 2025 at the United Methodist Church in Union, NJ, 2095 Berwyn St., Union, NJ 07083. Interment will follow privately for the family. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the National Park Foundation, Nature Conservancy or National Audubon Society. For condolences, please visit www.fiorefuneralhomes.com.
