Mary Sandra Lanier Mitchell, 77, entered into the presence of her Lord and Savior on February 28, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family. She passed peacefully after a courageous journey with end-stage renal failure.
Sandra was born on May 25, 1948, in Savannah Georgia. She later made her home in
Olin, North Carolina where she spent her final years close to family and community.
A devoted and compassionate caregiver, Sandra dedicated her professional life to serving others as an Oncology and Hospice Nurse. Her gentle spirit, steady presence, and unwavering compassion brought comfort to countless patients and families during life's most tender moments. Nursing was not simply her career-it was her calling.
Sandra's life was rooted deeply in her faith. She was a faithful member of Rocky Creek Baptist Church in Greenville, South Carolina, where she joyfully served in the choir and participated in Sunday School and a prayer group . Her love for the Lord extended beyond her community as she answered the call to serve on a mission trip to China, sharing her faith and compassion abroad. Her devotion to Christ shaped her life, guided her steps, and was evident to all who knew her.
She is lovingly remembered by her daughters, Robin Mitchell Fink and her husband, Brian Kelly Fink, and René Mitchell Snodgrass and her husband, Chris Snodgrass; her brother, Alton Lanier and his wife, Barbara Lanier; her sister, Elaine Lanier Langley. Sandy was a proud and devoted grandmother to six grandchildren and a cherished great-grandmother to five great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind numerous beloved nieces and nephews, as well as her faithful companion, her dog, Sassy.
Sandra found joy in the simple and beautiful things in life. She delighted in watching hummingbirds, admired the steadfast beauty of lighthouses, and spent countless peaceful hours tending to her flower beds. Her home was a reflection of her heart-warm, welcoming, and full of life.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, March 7, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Rocky Creek Baptist Church in Greenville, South Carolina. In honor of Sandra and her vibrant spirit, the family kindly asks that attendees wear her favorite color, blue.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Gordon Hospice House, whose compassionate care provided comfort and dignity in her final days. Or Rocky Creek Baptist Church of Greenville, South Carolina Missions.
Sandra's life is beautifully reflected in the words:
The tide recedes but leaves behind
bright seashells on the sand.
T he sun goes down, but gentle warmth
still lingers on the land.
The music stops and yet echoes
on in sweet refrain
For everything that passes,
something beautiful remains.
Sandra's legacy is one of faith, service, compassion, and love. Her life was a beautiful testament to grace in action, and she will be deeply missed by all who were blessed to know her.
