Mary James "Jimmie" Moade, 93, of Mount Carmel, Illinois, passed away on Monday, September 8, 2025 at River Oaks Health Campus in Princeton, IN. She was born on April 22, 1932 in Mount Carmel, Illinois, the daughter of James and Irene (Caldwell) Holsen.
After graduating from Mount Carmel High School in 1950, Mary Jimmie worked for Meissner Manufacturing Co. and also worked at TW George Oil Company. She than began teaching at North School in 1960, starting in fifth grade then special education; eventually teaching eighth grade science for the remainder of her teaching career when she retired in 1989.
Mary Jimmie married the love of her life, Donald Ray Moade on September 6, 1952 at Trinity United Methodist Church in Mount Carmel and together they enjoyed fifty-one years of marriage before his passing on March 19, 2004. They were blessed to live in and raise their children, Donald Patrick and Lynn Ann in Mount Carmel. Mary Jimmie was a devoted and loving wife and mother who cherished holidays and family gatherings. Any opportunity to spend time with her loved ones was deeply important to her. She loved the outdoors and spent a great deal of time camping and boating on the Wabash River. Mary Jimmie was a strong supporter of Wabash General Hospital supplying coloring books and small toys monthly to the emergency department for treating small children coming to the ER. Also, monthly donations of cat and dog food to the Wabash County Animal Shelter was a routine item on her monthly to do list.
She kept active in her community through Beta Sigma Phi Sorority for over sixty years and also Evangelical United Methodist Church where she was an active member of the hospitality committee cooking weekly for over 120 adults and children for many years. Mary Jimmie also overseen Americanism Essay awards to local students for over twenty years given by the American Legion Auxiliary and Christmas gifts to the Veterans. Mary Jimmie also participated in Memorial Day and Veterans Day programs in the local community and was very active in the VFW Auxiliary.
Mary Jimmie will be remembered by her two children, Donald Patrick Moade and Lynn Ann McClellan and husband, David. Mary Jimmie was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
Family and friends are invited to gather for a Visitation from 10:30 a.m.-2:00 p.m., Saturday, September 13, 2025, at the Evangelical United Methodist Church.
Funeral Services will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, September 13, 2025, at the Evangelical United Methodist Church with Pastor Michael Schultz officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Memorial Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial contributions may be made in Mary Jimmie's memory to Wabash County Animal Shelter Buddies. Envelopes will be at the Church or can be mailed to Keepes Funeral Home, 1500 North Cherry Street, Mount Carmel, IL 62863.
