Mary Mozley Konigsmark Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Carmichael Funeral Homes - Marietta on Oct. 18, 2024.
Mary Elizabeth (Betty) Mozley Konigsmark
Born Jan. 18, 1949 died October 17, 2024, surrounded by her family. She succumbed to Parkinson's/ Lewy Body Dementia after a 5 year battle with the disease. It was very difficult to see such a wonderful person decline at the hands of such a terrible disease.
Betty was born at old Piedmont Hospital in downtown Atlanta. She lived her first three years in Douglasville, Ga. in a home next door to her Mozley grandparents. Her family moved to Marietta when Betty was three as her dad opened a grocery store on Page St. (now the N. Marietta Pkwy.) They moved a couple of times in Marietta, but finally ended up in Whitlock Heights where she lived until she left home for college. During that time she attended Allgood, Keith, Westside, and Hickory Hills elementary schools. She graduated from Marietta High in 1967 where she played basketball, was a cheerleader, made straight A's the whole way through.
She then attended Emory at Oxford College in Covington (Oxford), Ga. For two years (it was only a two year school at the time). Her sophomore year she was elected "Miss Memory" (that is, to say Miss Emory at Oxford). She was actively involved in many extra circular activities and once again, a very good student. She transferred to Emory in Decatur for one semester and then transferred to the University of Georgia in Athens where she graduated Phi Beta Kappa in 1971.
During her senior year at Georgia she met the love of her life and future husband of 53 years, Reed Konigsmark who was also a student at Georgia.
Betty loved her life and loved life in general. She was a committed Christian having accepted Jesus as Savior and Lord in 1974 at the Marietta Methodist Campground on Roswell Rd. in Marietta. She lived the Christian life, she freely gave her life to her family and all those she knew. She greeted each day with a smile and with the expectation of blessing someone that day and having some fun along the way. She had many pleasant memories of times with her Douglasville grandparents (fishing expeditions, VBS, gardening) even after her family moved to Marietta. She was a devoted and loving wife to Reed her husband, their spark of love for each other never died. She loved being a mother of five children. In a day and age when women were being accepted in the workplace, Betty, who as stated above was very smart and could have done anything, chose to pursue her life time dream of being a wife and a mom. She homeschooled all five children over a 19 year period and loved it. During that time she also led a girl's discipleship group at First Methodist Marietta of about 20 girls. This started when the girls were in the 6th grade and Betty lead the group until they graduated from High School. Many of them still stay in touch. Betty shared with them God's love and grace. When she committed to something she was all in with earnest. She was voted "Best Camper" at Camp Juliette Lowe, in Cloudland, Ga. For 3 years running from age 10 to 12. Years later she got asked to be camp director at Camp Juliette Lowe, then years after that she was asked to be Youth Camp director for the week long summer camp of First Methodist Church called Youth Camp.
She also loved being a grandmother. To her, it was like getting to be a mother all over again. She taught them to do things like catch snowflakes in their mouth as the snow fell; catch lighting bugs; go on night walks with flashlights; roast marshmallows at bon fires; go on a beach trip with just the grandparents (that is, parent were not invited, just the grandparents and grandchildren) ;and of course, trips to Disney.
Betty was adventurous, spontaneous, vibrant, friendly, loyal, optimistic, encouraging, not to mention very attractive, but never thinking more highly of herself than others. She was also an extremely talented artist. Most of her work is displayed in her home, and guest are awed by them. !
She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. T. N. Mozley, Sr. of Douglasville and her maternal grandparents Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Allgood of Marietta. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Mary Allgood Mozley and T.N. "Nat" Mozley, Jr. of Marietta. Sadly, she was also preceded in death by two of her brothers, Randy and Mark Mozley. She is survived by her husband, Reed Konigsmark of Marietta and her children Nathan, Beth, Abby, Warren, and Bo. Also survived by her 13 grandchildren Isaac, Josie, Lily, Adams, Adeline, Naomi, Ballard, Elle, Edi, Reed, Jude, Louisa, and Harold. She is also survived by two brothers, T.N. "Tom" Mozley, III and Michael Mozley.
Betty knew many people in the Marietta area and ministered to most of them. She will be greatly missed. If you can have close to as much joy, contentment, and fun as Betty had in her life, you will have had a wonderful life.
