Mary Ann Mueller (née Huctwith), age 85, of Sugar Grove, Illinois, and formerly of Akron, Ohio, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Thursday, October 9, 2025.
Mary Ann was born on September 14, 1940, in Akron, Ohio, and was the only child of Kenneth James Huctwith and Mary Agnes Huctwith (née Price). She graduated from St. Mary's High School in 1958 and worked at Firestone in Akron for several years in the accounting department. Mary Ann continued her education by earning a bachelor's degree and then returned to school to earn her master's degree in social work in 1988. With her degree in social work, Mary Ann enjoyed giving back to the community by helping children and families at both Harvard High School and Kaneland High School, where she worked until retirement.
Mary Ann's earlier career included being a typesetter for a publishing company for many years. She was able to type at an advanced, excellent speed of 127 words a minute with no mistakes!
Mary Ann married William Eugene Mueller (Bill) on September 9, 1961, in Akron, Ohio and began their new life together. They were blessed with three children while they resided in Ohio including Akron, Warrensville Heights, and Solon, Ohio. Mary Ann was a devoted wife and a loving mother to three kids enjoying Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, sporting events with Mark and Mike while tending to the new baby girl Kathy. With three kids in tow, they then relocated to Downers Grove, Illinois, in 1972.
Mary Ann and Bill enjoyed traveling and were able to visit many exciting and exotic places around the world together including a trip to Ireland!
In addition to her professional career, Mary Ann was also a fabulous baker and cook. She often kept the freezer stocked with homemade pizza bread, cookies, and holiday treats that the family and the DG neighborhood gang truly enjoyed and still talk about today! She and Bill hosted several holiday/Christmas parties at their home in Downers Grove as well as neighborhood parties and the Bridge club.
Mary Ann enjoyed dancing in the 50's; she played the piano and guitar. She loved to have "Women's Weekend" with her besties at the lake! She kept in touch with her Akron cousins, longtime school friends and great family friends from the old neighborhood. She enjoyed pinochle, bridge, cribbage, and various other card games. Mary Ann often made homemade crafts with love, including handmade baby blankets and Christmas stockings for all of her eight grandchildren. She enjoyed going to all of the grandkids' sporting events, musical concerts, and graduations as they grew over the years. Mary Ann was a true giver and was always helping and thinking of other people.
Mary Ann is survived by her husband of 64 years William E. Mueller (Bill), her children Mark Mueller, Michael (Vicki) Mueller, and Kathleen Mueller-Hargreaves. Her eight grandchildren: Rosie (Christopher White) and Carl Mueller; Daniel, Amanda, and Abigail Mueller; and Shealyn, Aislin, and Devan Hargreaves, and puppy Annie O'Riley.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Kenneth J. Huctwith and Mary A. Huctwith.
Visitation will be held on Friday, October 17, 2025 from 5 pm -8 pm at The Healy Chapel, 370 Division Dr., Sugar Grove, Illinois 60554. Her Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, October 18, 2025 at Noon at St. Gall Catholic Church, 43W885 Hughes Rd., Elburn, Illinois. Burial will be at St. Gall Cemetery following the Mass.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to assist in the ongoing care of Abigail, Mary Ann's cherished granddaughter. Contributions may be mailed to Abigail Mueller c/o The Healy Chapel, 370 Division Dr., Sugar Grove, IL 60554.
