Mary Velia Alaniz was born on May 19, 1950, in Alma, Michigan, to the late Rosendo Alaniz and Eva Segovia. She was a proud 1968 graduate of Shepherd High School. Val was a longtime and faithful member of Holy Family Catholic Church, where she volunteered her time as eucharistic minister and used her talent to sing in the choir. An avid crafter, she was a gifted and talented seamstress. She was also an effective communicator and loved to have conversations with family and friends. Val had an eclectic taste with music and could sing anything from church music to Prince. She showed her love by cooking, often feeding everyone from family, her children’s friends, and neighbors. Val will forever be remembered for her kind and loving spirit, for welcoming everyone regardless of their station in life, for her generosity to all she loved, and for truly living an amazing life filled with many beautiful memories and stories.
