Mary Musselwhite Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Glidden-Ediger-Wiggins Funeral Home on Oct. 28, 2025.
Mary Ann Musselwhite passed away on October 26, 2025, at Salina Regional Health Center, leaving behind a legacy of warmth, dedication, and community service. Born on August 16, 1949, in Paducah, Kentucky, the daughter of Gene Naukam, Jr. and Catherine (Thompson) Naukam.
Mary's life is characterized by her unwavering kindness, commitment to those around her, and lifelong love of service. After completing her education, Mary embarked on a fulfilling career that touched the lives of many. She spent several years working alongside her devoted and loving husband, Ellis Musselwhite. Mary would share fond memories of working for the McPherson County Sheriff's Office as a dispatcher, jailer, and cook alongside Sheriff Ellis Musselwhite.
Over the years, Mary's passion for children and education led her to take on roles as a substitute teacher and a school bus driver, where she provided guidance and care to countless students. Mary also worked for Great Plains Credit Union in McPherson, KS, where she was known for her friendly demeanor and meticulous work as a teller.
In addition to her professional pursuits, Mary was dedicated to her community, as demonstrated by her service as the McPherson Township Treasurer for a remarkable 40 years.
Mary's Christian faith was a guiding light throughout her life, providing her with strength and comfort. She lived her faith through her actions, offering kindness and support to those around her and serving as a role model to many.
Mary was the heart of every gathering, and her presence brought comfort and happiness to those who knew her. She was an avid card player, cherishing the hours spent in good company, especially with her dear friend Eleanor Esau. Camping trips were a source of joy and adventure for Mary, allowing her to indulge in her love for the great outdoors and her beloved dog, Kyle, a constant companion.
Above all, Mary valued the time spent with her family and friends. Mary's most cherished memories included attending her daughter's and grandchildren's horse and cattle shows across the country, as well as their musical and sporting events.
As we bid farewell to Mary Ann Musselwhite, we celebrate a life beautifully lived. Her kind spirit, generosity, and deep-seated sense of community will continue to inspire those fortunate enough to have known her. Mary's legacy will endure in the hearts and memories of all who knew her best. Her love, kindness, and spirit will never be forgotten.
Mary is survived by her children, her son, Brian (Beth) Musselwhite of St. Louis, MO, and daughter, Jill (Justin) Mead of McPherson, KS; her brothers Gene (Anna) Naukam of Oklahoma, and John (Shirley) Naukam of Tennessee; grandchildren, Steven (Portia) Musselwhite, Daniel Musselwhite, Kaitlyn Musselwhite, Jaxson Mead, and Jody Mead; and her great-granddaughter, Athena.
She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ellis, and her parents, Gene and Catherine.
Memorial Service will be held Saturday, November 15, 2025, 10:30 a.m., at Glidden-Ediger-Wiggins Funeral Home, McPherson. Inurnment will be in Crestwood Memorial Park, McPherson. Following the service there will be a Celebration of Life at the McPherson County Fairgrounds in Canton, KS.

No matter how many miles are in between there are some friends who never leave your heart. MaryAnn was one of those very special friends. We have so many wonderful memories with Mary Ann. The many horse shows. The parrot punch at the Salina show. The dinners after the shows where we would share a meal and laughter. We miss you dear friend but you are always in our hearts. I always enjoyed chatting with Mary Ann, and I don't recall ever seeing her without a smile on her face. What a lovely legacy she left behind.
