Mary Nazareth Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Whiting's Funeral Home - Williamsburg on Jan. 31, 2024.
On Wednesday, January 24, 2024, an Angel came and whispered the name of our beloved Mary Elizabeth Nazareth, and led her from all of her labor to peaceful rest with our Lord and Savior. Her life began on March 10, 1937, the daughter of the late Horace and Mattie Dennis of Grafton, Va. She was preceded in death by her son Darnell Nazareth; four brothers, James "Tippy" Dennis, twin brothers, Rudolph and Ronald Dennis, and Horace Dennis Jr.; and two sisters, Helen Walker and Althea Godwin.
Mary graduated from James Weldon Johnson in 1955. At an early age, she joined Grafton Baptist Church - Harris Grove, where she was an active and faithful member working on the Usher Board and Building Fund Committee, until her passing. Mary retired from Eastern State Hospital after thirty years of service.
Mary loved to travel with family and friends, play Bid Whist with her sisters, and spend time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Mary leaves her precious memories with her loving son, Rico Taylor; grandchildren, Latoya Nazareth, Morgan Nazareth, Devonta Nazareth, Sean Blow, Keona Taylor, and Rashawn Smith (Julia); great-grandchildren, Sha'Mia Nazareth, Sa'Niya Nazareth, Sa'Bella Jones, and Kalani Smith; daughter-in-law, Angela Nazareth; six sisters, Phyllis Jones of Williamsburg, Gloria Sedgwick (Robert) of Grafton, Maxine Robinson of Newport News, Christine Richardson of Newport News, Sandra Robinson of Maryland, and Florence Faggins (Jimmy) of Philadelphia; two sisters-in-law, Inez Dennis and Helen Dennis; special friend Lillie Mae Brooks; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A service to celebrate Mary's life will be held at noon, Friday, February 2, 2024, in Grafton Baptist Church - Harris Grove with a viewing beginning at 10:00 a.m. Interment to follow in the church cemetery.
