Mary Louise (Dier) Nelson, 76, Algoma, died peacefully on Friday December 19, 2025, with family by her side.
She was born in Algoma on July 18, 1949, the daughter of Mahlon and Jeanette Dier. Mary grew up attending St. Mary's Church and Catholic School in Algoma and attended Algoma High School with the Class of 1967. She attended UW-Stevens Point and soon met the love of her life, Roger Nelson.
Mary and Roger were engaged on Christmas Eve and she became his "Bride" on April 12, 1969.
Mary began her bookkeeping career as parish secretary for St Mary's followed by many years at Denny's Red Owl and Super Valu. Mary also worked for the family business, Forestville Builders and Supply, helping many families design their dream homes.
In Mary's free time she enjoyed watching her children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews sporting events and other activities. She enjoyed gardening, crafts, shopping, visiting her parents in Gulf Shores AL, visiting with friends and relatives and planning for the next Shanty Days in which she was named honoree.
Mary will be missed by her husband of 56 years, Roger Nelson; children Christine Blohowiak (Jerry), Jennifer Blohowiak (Mark Carrick), Eric Nelson; grandchildren Sadie Blohowiak (fiancé Erik Oertel), Lillian Nelson, Caleb Blohowiak, Carson Blohowiak; siblings Laura Krzysiak, Kristine Dauenhauer (Dan), Peggy Dier, Thomas Dier (Laurie), Jacqueline Toepfer (Kurt Bullard), Jeffrey Dier (Alana), Michelle Bastien (Daniel); brothers-in-law Lyle Nelson (Monica), Alfred Nelson (Joyce) and sister-in-law Theresa Nelson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her special grandson Elden Steinhoff, parents Mahlon and Jeanette Dier, in-laws Eldon and Edith Nelson, sibling-in-law's Beverly (Jane) Wienke (Don), Gene (Eric) Nelson, Gary Krzysiak and niece Heidi Nelson; and other relatives.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be prayed at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, December 29, 2025 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Algoma with Father Timothy Machila and Father Bill Switchenberg con-celebrating. Mary will be laid to rest in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation for family and friends will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 28, 2025 at Schinderle Funeral Home in Algoma with a parish wake service to be held at 7:00 p.m. Visitation to continue at St. Mary Church from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.
Memorials may be given in her honor for EAS Foundation or Unity Hospice.
Our family would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to her dedicated caregivers; Conchita; the entire staff at Anna's House; Unity Hospice staff, especially Olivia, Ashley, Amy and Miranda. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for the care and compassion you have shown our mom through the past few years but especially in her final days, she was so loved !!!
