Mary null Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Jones - Gallagher Funeral Home - Starke on Feb. 5, 2026.
Mrs. Mary Hewitt age 79 of Starke passed away at her home on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, with her children and sister at her side after a long and difficult battle with cancer. She was born in Thomas County, Georgia to Martin and Myrtice (Reagan) Chastain. Mrs. Hewitt was not only a wife and mother, but she was also involved with her husband's home improvement work as well as working in the textile industry and being a caregiver.

Her love was deep, devoted, and unwavering, and it guided so much of who she was.

She worked hard her entire life, often with very little, and she protected what she had. She was resilient, strong-willed, and fiery - but behind that fire was a precious smile and a big heart, especially for those she loved most.

Spring was her favorite time of year. She loved warm weather and found so much joy when her flowers bloomed. She had a green thumb and took pride in her plants - her hydrangea, her Christmas cactus, and her hibiscus. Those blooms brought her peace and reminded her of the beauty she nurtured.

She loved laughing and sharing moments of joy, and was known for her strength, grit, and deep love.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband Walter "Woody" Hewitt. Left behind to cherish her memory are her

three children Robert Dixon of Starke, Pam Dixon of Orlando, and Angie Amy (Shaun) of Tifton, Georgia whom she loved more than anything in the world. Also left behind is her sister Diane Garrison of Starke and brother Bobby Chastain of Keystone Heights. Mrs. Hewitt was lovingly called "Grammy" by five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. A graveside service to celebrate her life will be held Monday, February 9, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. with Reverend Bobby Epps officiating. Interment will be at Crosby Lake Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made to the American Cancer Society. Arrangement are under the care of JONES-GALLAGHER FUNERAL HOME, 620 E. Nona St., Starke, FL 32091.
