Mary Oldham Wright Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Perry Funeral Home - Newark from Dec. 16 to Dec. 19, 2025.
Mary P. Oldham Wright was born in Newark, NJ to the late Mildred Oldham in 1935. She was educated in the Newark school system where she attended East Side High School. Mary departed this life and entered eternal rest on December 7, 2025.
Mary was a lifelong resident of Newark, NJ until she eventually relocated to East Orange, NJ in early 1990s. There she remained until her passing.
At the age of 17 years, Mary met Mr. William Wright Sr. whom she wed. Through their union the two were blessed with nine children: William Wright Jr., Cynthia Wright, Derrick Wright, Rickey Wright, Gary Wright, Rochelle Wright, Vincent Wright, Edward Wright, and Benjamin Wright. Mary and her husband William had a loving marriage until his passing in March 18, 1979.
Mary enjoyed going to church and sharing the fellowship of her home church. Mary loved cooking for her family and they loved her oxtail stew. She also enjoyed talking on the phone with her family and friends.
Mary definitely enjoyed going to Atlantic City with her daughter Rochelle, a trip she truly made the best of. Gospel music was very uplifting to her. Mary loved watching her news channel when she was not enjoying watching Lifetime Movie Network.
Mary was preceded in passing by: her husband, William Wright Sr.; two of her children, Cynthia and Benjamin; and three grandchildren, Derrick Kelly, Hasim Hunter-Wright and Monique Wright.
Mary leaves to carry on her legacy: seven children, William Jr., Rickey, Gary, Derrick, Vincent, Edward and Rochelle; her 27 grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren; her daughters-n-law, Tawana Wright, Michelle Wright and Towanna Rabb; her sisters-in-law, Mary, Alberta and Jessie; along with her extended family and friends.
