Mary Ortag Obituary
Published by Legacy on Nov. 16, 2025.
Mary Ortag, devoted wife, loving mother, and adoring grandmother, passed away peacefully, surrounded by the family she cherished. Born in New York, Mary later moved to Arizona with her loved ones, beginning a beautiful new chapter-one filled with hope, warmth, and a love that seemed to radiate from her soul.
A hardworking nurse, Mary spent much of her life tending to others with a gentle touch and a heart full of compassion. Caring for children and families brought her deep purpose, and her nurturing spirit left an imprint on every life she touched. Mary held a steadfast belief that God had a plan for her, and when she met Joe-her husband, her partner, and the man she lovingly called her prince charming-she felt that divine plan come alive in the most perfect way.
Together, Mary and Joe built a life rooted in faith, laughter, and unwavering devotion. When their two daughters, Jessica and Jenny, arrived, Mary embraced motherhood with her entire being. She chose to become a stay-at-home mom, pouring her heart into raising her girls, guiding their education, and creating a home filled with steadiness, tenderness, and unconditional love. Her quiet strength shaped their lives in ways words can never fully capture.
Those who met Mary may have first seen her gentle shyness-but those blessed to know her quickly discovered her sweet humor, her generous heart, and the warmth that seemed to make every room feel softer. She had an adventurous spirit and loved spontaneous road trips with Joe, even when the destination was simply being together. Mary also loved sports and found pure joy in cheering for her favorite teams-celebrating victories with childlike excitement and staying hopeful through even the toughest seasons. She loved cheering on her Diamondbacks and new found love for the Tennessee Vols.
A passionate writer at heart, Mary filled pages with poems, reflections, and stories from her travels-capturing life's small beauties as if each one were a precious gift. As her daughters grew older, she returned to working with children, once again sharing her patience, kindness, and calming presence with all who crossed her path.
Her world grew even brighter with the arrival of her grandsons, Jaxson and Cameron. They were her pride, her joy, and the light of her later years-little blessings she held close in every way.
Mary leaves behind a legacy woven from kindness, faith, devotion, and love. She will be forever missed by Joe, her beloved husband, her daughters, Jessica and Jenny, her treasured grandsons, her sister Patti and all whose lives were touched by her gentle spirit.
Though our hearts ache with her absence, we find comfort in knowing Mary is now in heaven, held tenderly in God's embrace. We believe she is watching over us as our guardian angel-protecting, guiding, and loving us from above. May her light continue to shine softly upon us until we meet her again.
May we find peace in the quiet moments, and keep her memory close to our hearts-where her love will live on forever.
