Mary Papillon, 91, of Stroud Twp. peacefully passed away surrounded by her loving family Friday, March 1, 2024, in the home built by her husband and her 70 years ago.
Mary was born 5-30-1932 in West Chester County, NY to the late Henry Wille and Minna Eyman Wille.
After graduating from high school, she attended dental school and was employed as a dental assistant in New York, NY. Mary met her future husband, Ernest Papillon, as a teenager on a double date while visiting family in the Poconos. She married her husband in May of 1954 and relocated permanently to Stroud Twp.
Mary had three children and was a stay-at-home mom while her children were young. She volunteered for Girl Scouting, 4H and many church activities. She was especially proud of serving as a volunteer at the Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) for over 25 years in her later years. She was known by her family for hosting summer pool parties, attending all special events for her children and grandchildren, her pineapple upside down cake, her hearty laugh and special sense of humor. She amazed others by remaining technologically savvy into her nineties.
She was a member of Faith United Methodist Church.
She is survived by two daughters, Conni Papillon of East Stroudsburg, PA, and Nancy Papillon Liskosky and husband Joseph of Pringle, PA, grandchildren, Forest Matechik (Beth Smalley), Sky Matechik Velez (Robert), Micah Matechik (Lexie Meisse) and her beloved granddaughter Tessa Liskosky who lived with and helped care for her in the last months of her life, great grandchildren Rome and Leo Velez, special extended family Louise Scavone, Dr. Jillian Scavone and husband Dr. Michael Powell and Daniel Scavone (Natalia), sister-in-law Elaine Brodhead (George) and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by husband Ernest E. Papillon, infant son Kenneth E. Papillon who died 9-10-1966, brother Fred Wille and sister Elfriede Dose.
Funeral services will be held at Faith United Methodist Church at 12:00 pm on Saturday, March 9, 2024, with Pastor Jack Tironi officiating.
There will be a visitation from 9:00 am until the time of service on Saturday at the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to Faith United Methodist Church, 1160 Clause Dr., Stroudsburg, PA 18360, or Camp Papillon Animal Shelter, 128 Brainerd Ln., Stroudsburg, PA 18360.
The family wishes to thank Lehigh Valley Home Care and Hospice with a special thank you to her nurse Darlene, her caregiver Cezile and her good friend David all of whom she was extremely fond of.

Sorry to hear of Mary's passing. She led a full life and it is great that she was able to stay at home with her family. The Papillons were one of the first families we met when we moved to Pennsylvania (we lived on the same road) and Mary became one of our mother's best friends. Her kids will have lots of great memories.
