Mary Parsons Obituary
Mary Elizabeth Parsons, 74, of Aurora, Colorado, passed away on Jan. 30, 2025, at her home. She was born Feb. 7, 1950, in Sheridan, Wyoming, the third daughter of the late John D. and Virginia Johnson Tolliver Parsons.
Mary received a General Education Program (GED) certificate in 1968. Mary joined the U.S. Army in 1968 at Ft. Carson, Colorado, and served until honorably discharged in 1976. She later earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Mount Mercy College (now University), in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, in criminal justice.
Mary was married to George W. Redd. The marriage eventually dissolved. There were no natural children from this union.
Mary worked as a Security Guard at the Cedar Rapids Mall for several years before moving to Colorado to be closer to family members living there.
She served as the family's lead researcher into our own histories and cultural influences. She was quite the expert on family history so that she could recite their names. She wrote a beautiful tribute that she shared at our sister Gloria's funeral in 2011. Mary especially loved to collect Corning Ware dishes.
Mary was a member of the Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church in Keokuk, Iowa, and the Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Cedar Rapids. She was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church in Denver, Colorado when she passed.
Remaining to cherish Mary's memory are: children, Jean Aarron W. Parsons and Deborah Blythe Parsons; grandchildren, Aryes Romeo-Taylor, Elias Ice Parsons, Adrianna Elizabeth Parsons and Aaron Christopher Parsons; brothers John K. Parsons Sr., Hastings, Minnesota, and Guy N. Parsons Sr., New York, New York; sister Deborah B. Parsons of Denver, Colorado.; niece Paige Y. Parsons, Highlands Ranch, Colorado; and nephews, John K. Parsons Jr. and Guy N. Parsons Jr., and nieces Brittany Eileen and Krystal, all of Minnesota.
Preceding Mary in death are her parents, John D. and Virginia R. Parsons; sister Gloria Lee Parsons-Gray; and nephew Christopher John Parsons. She will be missed by a myriad of family members and friends.
Visitation will be at 11 a.m. at the White Rose Baptist Church, 1117 W. Locust St., Bowling Green, Missouri, Saturday, March 22. Services are scheduled for 1 p.m. The ceremony will conclude at Ashley Memorial Cemetery, Ashley, Missouri.
