Mary Perzia Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 11, 2012.
PERZIA, Mary Marchetta, 99, died on April 11, 2012, peacefully at home. She was born in Tampa, Florida on July 31, 1912 to Giovannai and Lucy Marchetta, residents of Ybor City who immigrated from San Stefano, Sicily. She is joined in heaven with her beloved husband of 62 years Dr. Anthony Perzia and siblings Josephina, Florida, and Henry. Mary is survived by her daughters Patricia Clark (Robert) and Toni Everett and grandchildren Caitilin Kamaris (Christian), Leila Martini, Anthony Everett (Julie) and Henderson Lee (Ben), and six great-grandchildren Alec, Drew, Mathew, Isabelle, Everett and Bennett. Mary graduated from Hillsborough High School in 1932 and married her childhood sweetheart. They lived in Hyde Park and Davis Islands for their entire lives. Mary was a 60+ year member and past president of the Davis Islands Garden Club, Tampa Yacht Club and Palma Ceia Country Club, where she loved to play bridge with her friends. Mary loved cooking, flower arranging and growing roses, winning many floral awards throughout her life. Flawlessly fashionable, she never left home without being dressed in the latest style and matching accessories. She was a positive and beautiful lady all her life, fluent in Italian, Spanish and English, often speaking all three at once. Always ready for fun, she loved to dance, laugh, cuss and gamble. Most of all, Mary was dedicated to loving and caring for her family and friends. She leaves behind a legacy of sophistication, grace and elegance; the last of the great Glamour Ladies of the 1900's era. The family will receive friends from 5:30-7:30pm on Monday, April 16th at Blount & Curry Funeral Home, 605 S. MacDill Avenue. A celebration of Mary's life will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 509 N. Florida Avenue at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday April 17th. Entombment will follow at Myrtle Hill Memorial Park. Mary would love flowers and contributions to LifePath Hospice, 3010 W. Azeele St., Tampa. 33609.
