Candler – Mary Jo Pressley “JO”, born November 15,1946, in Buncombe County N.C. Passed away peacefully at home with her family by her side on October 25, 2025. A resident of Candler, NC, Mary Jo, was married to Ray Pressley for 63 years. Ray and Mary Jo were active members of Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church in Candler, NC.
Mary Jo was the daughter of the late Clarence Raper and Beryl Jackson Crane. In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her son-in-law Boyd Gutherie. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her sisters, JoAnn Rhinehart (Russell), Jewel Atwood, and Crystal Raper Robertson. Daughter Annette Guthrie, Son David Pressley (Jill). Grandchildren David Whitt (Andi), Shelby Harbin (Caleb) and Sheridan Pressley. Great grandchildren Madi Whitt, Andrew, and Brooks Harbin.
Mary Jo spent most of her working years as a Dental Assistant for Dr. Morton Sr. for 39 years. Mary Jo enjoyed cooking and baking for all to enjoy, as it gave her immense joy to feed others and see them happily enjoying her treats. Mary Jo enjoyed watching her grandchildren play their sports and just being around all her family. Mary Jo enjoyed being around her Grand-Dog Roxy. Mary Jo never met a stranger; she was a joy to be around.
A memorial service is scheduled at Wells Funeral Home in Canton, on October 30th, 2025, at 3:00 p.m., with Pastor Eric Hill officiating. There will be receiving of friends and family two-hours prior, from 1:00pm to 3:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, family and friends are asked to contribute to Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church at 2397 Smokey Park Hwy, Candler N.C. 28715.
