Mary Evelyn Quattlebaum (Manning), age 92, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 30, 2025, at Bee Hive Homes in Floydada, Texas. Graveside services will be held at 1:00PM, Saturday, April 5, 2025, at Caps Cemetery (Abilene). Visitation will be held Friday, April 4, 2025, from 3-5:00PM at the Moore-Rose Funeral Home in Floydada.
Mary was born on February 17, 1933, in Lockney Texas and was the only child of John F. and Tommie Manning.
Mary lived in Lockney her entire childhood until graduating from high school in 1950. She briefly attended West Texas College when she met a young gin engineer named Bill Quattlebaum. A courtship ensued and they were married on September 15, 1951.
Except for brief periods, Mary and Bill spent their entire married life in the South Plains dedicated to their mutual passions of family, friends, church, Texas Tech, the cotton industry and sometimes golf. They were the true backbone of the Quattlebaum family, always present, supportive, and a positive influence on their children and grandchildren. Their union lasted over 60 years until Bill's death in 2012.
Mary and Bill lived their dream of returning to Floyd county as their last permanent home where they were near Mary's childhood homestead and treasured farmland that Bill had accumulated. Mary remained there until entering Bee Hive Homes in Floydada in 2022. Mary was known by all as sweet, animal-loving, and generous to a fault. The family thanks Mike and Rise Ford and Jake Galvan and the staff of Bee Hive Homes for lovingly caring for Mary in her final years.
Mary is survived by her two daughters, Nancy McGuire and husband Mark of Lubbock, Texas and Melinda Quattlebaum of Kerrville, Texas; seven grandchildren, Kim Counts and husband Shawn of Sherman Texas, Gabrielle Almand and husband Shaun of McKinney Texas, Alix Ingelido and husband Matthew of JBMOL, New Jersey, Sam Foster and partner Sky King of Hobbs, New Mexico, Brady Foster and wife Courtney of Kerrville, Texas, Lauren McGuire and husband Garrett Walsh of Katy, Texas, and Ryan McGuire of Austin, Texas; and 10 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by husband Bill and son Gregg.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be given to the Texas Tech Alumni Association c/o Bill Quattlebaum scholarship (P.O. Box 45001 Lubbock, TX 79409).
