Mary Lee Raines, lovingly known as Mary to her friends and family, passed away peacefully on October 1, 2024, in Greenville, SC, at the age of 81. Born on May 5, 1943, in Newport, TN, Mary's life was a rich tapestry of love, dedication, and service, woven with the threads of her unwavering faith and the joy she found in simple pleasures.

Mary's professional life was spent as a devoted weaver and textile operator, where her skilled hands and keen eye for detail were greatly valued. Her work was not just a job; it was a testament to her ability to interlace her love for sewing into a fulfilling career. Mary's commitment to her craft was paralleled only by her involvement in her community, where she was known for her selfless nature and willingness to lend a helping hand.

A woman of many interests, Mary had a particular fondness for fishing, a hobby that allowed her to bask in the tranquility of nature and the excitement of a catch. Her love for coloring and sewing were expressions of her creative spirit, and she could often be found engrossed in her latest project or enjoying her favorite television shows. Mary's home was filled with warmth and laughter, thanks in part to the joyful presence of her three beloved dogs, with whom she loved to play and who were constant companions throughout her later years.

Mary's life was characterized by her loving and faith-filled demeanor, qualities that shone brightly in her relationships with family and friends. She was a beacon of selflessness, always placing the needs of others before her own, and her legacy is carried on by those she loved most dearly. Mary is survived by her daughters, Brenda Chimera (David) and Catherine Redding; her sisters, Diana Bowers and Blanche McClain; her cherished grandchildren, Billy Coleman, Amey Ledford, Casey Chimera, Tiffany Chimera, David Chimera, and Brittany Redding; her adored 17 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren; along with many nieces and nephews who will miss her deeply.

Mary was predeceased by her son, William Redding; her sisters, Elizabeth Miller and Dorothy Alexander; her brothers, Everett Holt, David Gilliland, Tommy Gilliland, and her twin brothers, Johnney and Roger Gilliland. Each of them held a special place in her heart, and the memories they shared will continue to bring comfort to those who remember them.

Mary's family will forever cherish the countless memories they made together, from shared meals full of laughter to quiet moments of companionship. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren will remember her as the matriarch who instilled in them the values of kindness, compassion, and faith—lessons that will guide them throughout their lives.

As we bid farewell to Mary Lee Raines, we celebrate a life well-lived, a journey marked by an unshakeable faith in God, boundless love for her family, and a generosity of spirit that touched all who knew her. Mary's departure leaves behind a legacy of love that will continue to inspire and influence generations to come. She has left this world for her heavenly home, but the essence of her spirit—a tapestry of love and dedication—remains with us, a comforting presence in the hearts of those she touched.
