Mary Ferne (Dyson) Rasplicka 88, died December 14, 2024, at the Keokuk County Health Center in Sigourney. Mary was born March 22, 1936, to Olan Oral and Fern Lena Hanchett Dyson at the family home in rural Sigourney. The family moved to rural Washington, Iowa, where she attended country school until 7th grade when they moved back to Sigourney. She attended Sigourney schools and graduated in 1954. After graduation she moved to Cedar Rapids and was employed at First Trust and Savings Bank where she met William Rasplicka. They were married July 14, 1957, at the English Valley Church of the Brethren. They lived in Cedar Rapids and the family grew with three sons. In 1966 they moved to Marshalltown where Bill worked with his brother in a wholesale greenhouse operation. Mary became heavily involved in the activities of the boys, from concessions in the Little League to Boy Scout Den Mother. She was involved in scouting for over ten years. Mary was a Den Mother trainer for new Den Mothers and ran round table for Scout Leaders for four years. She received the Silver Fawn, which is the highest honor she could receive as a female leader at the time. The family moved to Sigourney in 1976 and opened the Sigourney Greenhouse Flower Shop, which they ran for 30 years. Mary drove the school bus for 30 years and was transportation director for several years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Sigourney, Hospital Auxiliary and was the president for many years. She enjoyed league bowling, crafting, and jigsaw puzzles.
She was preceded in death by her parents, son Jeff Rasplicka, and grandson Joshua Rasplicka.
She is survived by her husband Bill of Sigourney, Sons Greg (Paula) Rasplicka, Tim (Janet) Rasplicka of Warrenville, Illinois, five grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren sister Betty Fair of Sigourney, brothers Dean (Carolyn) Dyson of Sigourney and Don (Norma) Dyson of Albia.
Visitation: Monday December 16, 2024 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Holm Funeral Home.
Funeral Service: Tuesday December 17, 2024 10:30 a.m. English River Church of The Brethren - South English.
Burial: English River Brethren Cemetery - South English. A luncheon will be held at First Baptist Church in Sigourney following the burial.
Memorials may be given to the Keokuk County Hospital Auxiliary.
