Mary Jane (Haslett) Ray, age 95, of Slidell, Louisiana passed away Friday, January 5, 2024 at Anderson Memory Care in Slidell, Louisiana.
Graveside service will be at 11:00, Wednesday, January 10, 2024 at Sidener Cemetery in St. Elmo, Illinois. Pee Wee Denton will be officiating. Memorials may go to Sidener Cemetery or the donor's choice. Gieseking Funeral Home, Altamont is assisting the family with arrangements.
Mary Jane was born on August 8, 1928 to Berthol F. Haslett and Laura Belle (Sidwell) Haslett and she graduated from St. Elmo High School. Mary Jane was a long time member of the First Baptist Church in St. Elmo and was currently a member of Northside Baptist Church in Slidell, La. During her working career she was employed First National Bank, Altamont; Fayette County Bank, St. Elmo; First National Bank Alaska, Fairbanks, Alaska and as a Real Estate Agent in Slidell, La.
She married Daniel Ray on April 22, 1947 at Fairview Church in Avena. They were married for 49 years 9 months until his death on January 16, 1997.
She is survived by daughter, Judy Berg (Rich) of Effingham, IL; sons, Steve Ray of Champaign, IL, Tom Ray (Terri) of Slidell, LA. Grandchildren, Ryan Berg of Champaign, IL, Danielle Kirgan (Curt) of Irvington NY, Daniel Ray (Aisa) of New Orleans, LA, R.J. Ray of Atlanta, GA. Great-Grandchildren, Alec Berg of Champaign,IL, Clayton Kirgan and Tyler Kirgan of Irvington NY, Griffin Ray of New Orleans, LA.
Mary Jane was preceded in death by her husband Daniel Ray; parents, Berthol and Laura Belle Haslett; brothers, Kenny, Bobby and Phil Haslett; sister in infancy, Iris Haslett; sisters-in-law, Reta Haslett, Doris Haslett, and Elaine Haslett and nephew Mike Haslett.
