Cumberland, MD-Mary Elizabeth Rice, 93, of Cumberland, MD passed away on Friday, December 12, 2025 at Frostburg Rehab Center.
Born June 8, 1932 in Carmichaels, PA, Ms. Rice was the daughter of the late John Thomas Hughes and Elizabeth Loretta (Moran) Hughes. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 38 years: D. Joseph Rice; her brothers: John, Francis, Bob, and Bernie Hughes; her sister: Helen Rotruck; and was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Mary worked and retired from Days Market as a Manager, with 38 years of working at the market she was able to form bonds with generations of families. She was a lifelong member of Our Lady of the Mountains Parish-St. Mary's Catholic Church. She enjoyed going to the casino, reading, socializing and being on the "run." Mary was known by most but if not, she always introduced herself and lived at the Cascades where she made many friends during her time there.
Mary is survived by her son: Larry J. Rice and wife Terrie; and her kids: Mandy Thomas and husband, Adam; Mark Beard and partner, Tranea; and Taylor Maiers and partner Kaitlyn; her grandchildren: Olivia, Emma, Ava, Ethan, and Soleil; as well as her many nieces, nephews and numerous in-laws on the Rice side with whom she stayed very close with.
Friends will be received at Adams Family Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur Street, Cumberland, MD (www.adamsfamilyfuneralhome.com) on Wednesday, December 17, 2025 from 1:00 P.M. to 3:00 P.M. and 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of the Mountains Parish, St. Mary's Catholic Church, 300 E. Oldtown Road, Cumberland, MD on Thursday, December 18, 2025 at 11:00 A.M., with Father Mark Carter OFM Cap officiating.
Interment will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Frostburg Rehab Center for all their care and compassion.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mary's name to Our Lady of the Mountains Parish St. Mary's Catholic Church 300 E. Oldtown Rd, Cumberland, MD.
